Building Pathways Together: UDS’s New Mission and Vision

We are excited to share that the Uniting Distant Stars (UDS) Board of Directors has officially approved our new mission and vision statements on April 4, 2026!

This milestone marks the culmination of the thoughtful work we began last year during our strategic planning process, facilitated by Anika Kaleewoun. Together, we took time to reflect, listen, and clarify how we articulate who we are and how we walk alongside Liberian communities.

Our Updated Statements

Short Mission Statement
Partnering with Liberians to build pathways to sustainable futures.

Vision Statement
Every Liberian has access to the training, education, and opportunities needed to shape their own future.

These statements capture the heart of UDS: partnership, dignity, sustainability, and opportunity. They are simple, intentional, and deeply aligned with the way we do our work every day.

Community Voices That Affirm Our Path

As part of this process, we invited donor feedback—and their responses were incredibly affirming.

Connie from South Dakota shared how meaningful the language felt to her:

“I especially like the choice of words partnering and pathways. It puts them and us on an equal basis as partners… Pathways says to me we are opening avenues for them to choose from and not determining what route they should take.”

Her reflection beautifully mirrors our belief that lasting change happens when people have choice and agency.

Laura and Donna from Minnesota both praised the clarity and authenticity of the statements. Laura noted that the focus on sustainability and long-term impact resonates strongly and clearly reflects transformation through practical, attainable means. Donna described the wording as clear, genuine, and succinct.

Dorothy from Colorado echoed that affirmation, sharing that the statements sound very strong and work seamlessly together.

Looking Ahead

A mission and vision are more than words—they are commitments. These updated statements guide our decisions, strengthen our partnerships, and clearly communicate what UDS stands for as we move forward.

We are grateful to our board, donors, volunteers, UDS Liberian Team, and strategic planning partners for shaping this moment with intention and care. With renewed clarity and shared excitement, we look ahead—continuing to partner with Liberians as they build sustainable futures on their own terms.
