An Exciting visit from a long-time supporter

We often encourage people to visit our campus and meet our staff and students. When someone accepts our offer, it brings excitement and joy to everyone.

On October 30, 2025, Yeamah Brewer visited our campus for the first time. As a long-time supporter, she has observed our growth from an idea to a school serving Liberians who yearned for a better life.

Myrtle S. Toe (UDS Deputy Director), Kelvin Fomba (UDS Co-Founder & Director), Yeamah, and her brother.

Yeamah met Heather Cannon (UDS Co-Founder) online in 2009 when Heather was living in Liberia volunteering for two local NGOs (non-governmental organizations). One of the organizations—Action Against Climate Change—caught Yeaman’s eye, and she connected with the founder, Yurfee Shaikalee, and then Heather through social media.

Over time, Yeamah transformed her passion into co-founding the Black Sustainability organization. The work to mobilize a network of professionals, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to restore balance between people and Earth’s resources.

Her support is not solely financial. In 2017, she spearheaded a six-day training on how to build a biosand water filtration system, facilitated by Friendly Water of the World.

During her visit, Yeamah spent much of her time meeting and talking with staff and students. She shared her focus on creating green jobs and how we can partner in developing training programs to increase options for Liberians seeking to achieve self-sufficiency. They spent time discussing Liberia’s waste management problem and ways to resolve it. Her visit may have ended, but the discussion continues on how to train young people in green jobs and build sustainable futures.
