Welcome Our New Board Members: Makayla Higgs and Emmanuel Brown

Uniting Distant Stars is excited to announce the appointment of Makayla Higgs and Emmanuel Brown to its Board of Directors.

Makayla Higgs is a community-focused professional with experience in administration, program coordination, nonprofit operations, and relationship building. With a background in sociology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, she is passionate about understanding the systems and barriers that impact individuals and communities. Throughout her career, she has supported nonprofit organizations and community-based programs through administrative leadership and organizational support. She believes in the power of meaningful connections and creating opportunities that help people thrive.

Emmanuel Brown is an entrepreneur, real estate investor, and community leader. He owns and operates Renewed Carpet Cleaning Services, providing quality cleaning services throughout the Twin Cities. Emmanuel is also the founder of Kizen Soccer Sport Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality soccer opportunities to under-resourced families. He strongly believes that every child who desires to play soccer should have access to quality training and development opportunities.

As Uniting Distant Stars continues to expand educational and vocational opportunities for youth in Liberia, both Makayla and Emmanuel bring valuable experience, leadership, and a deep commitment to community empowerment. Their perspectives and expertise will help strengthen the organization's efforts to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to build brighter futures.
