We are excited to announce our newest board member, Joy Larmouth! She has been supporting Uniting Distant Stars for about two years now and wanted to take her involvement to a new level. She was voted in last month and will be attending her first board meeting on December 4. She will also be traveling to Liberia later in the month to meet Kelvin and our students. We hope to share more when she returns. Below is her bio and reason for joining UDS.
Joy was born in Liberia and immigrated to Minnesota with her family in 1993 due to a civil conflict in her home country. She has always had a passion for working in healthcare and making an impact on the lives of others. She obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Minnesota.
As a nurse, Joy has worked with individuals from very diverse backgrounds and has strived to make a difference in the lives of the patients and families she served. Nursing has also provided Joy with the opportunity to volunteer with various organizations in the Twin Cities, including the Jeremiah Program and NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center.
Joy desires to broaden her horizon through non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like UDS working to empower the youth of Liberia to be agents of change. She views the younger generation as the future of Liberia and believes that, if given educational opportunities, they can help to rebuild Liberia. Joy believes it is not only an honor but a privilege to serve on the board of UDS.
